About
Melbourne University Chinese Theatre Group had its first performance in 1993. Within these 16 years, we have already had 26 productions in total. Each production was made by different groups of people, and put enormous effort over days and nights. This is an unbelievable achievement for an organization which is supported by students. Here we want to say thank you to our past productions committees and sponsors. Without your help, these all would not be happened.

2007 Mandarin Production "The Empress Dowager & I 德龄与慈禧"
(A Mudfest10 Project)
Set in the period of the late Qing Dynasty in China, during the period that western is an unknown and forbidden topic in the city. The story examines the amusing relationship between the traditionally recalcitrant but human Empress Dowager, CiXi and the westernized Elizabeth, the daughter of Yu Geng, a high-ranked official in China. The westernized ideas that Elizabeth brought to The Empress Dowager from France had bravely challenged the taboo in China. The presence of Elizabeth had inevitably reveals some hilarious and pitiful stories
2007 Cantonese Production "He ain't Heavy, He's my Father"
A low-keyed mixture of sci-fi, comedy and maudlin family theme, with a setting of both 60s and 90s of Hong Kong allow audiences to explore and experience the new and old of Hong Kong . The story is about a callow young man that was propelled backwards through time after falling into a wishing well during the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival. He met his father as a teenager and gained a new appreciation for the dear - but square - old Dad.

A magnificent black comedy with strong Chinese traits produced by CTG. It touches on the Chinese taboo "Death". It was a breakthrough to Chinese culture as well as CTG.

We tried a contemporary script "Crouching Husband Hidden Wife" was performed at Open Stage Theatre, which was the first time we put on a play away from Union House.
